"On Linux and OS X you already have python installed. Atom is a decent basic editor for non-windows users. Also, IDEs like PyCharm Community Edition (free) can be helpful once you have moved past the basics because of code completion and other helpful features. I know some like to use Net Beans and Eclipse for python as well. Wings is also a fantastic IDE, but I don't think they have a free version."
